What happens to your details

If you ask us to find something

The form asks for your name, email, and optionally a phone number. Those three things are stored separately from the request itself, and only the owner of the site can read them. They are never shown on any page, and your phone number in particular is never displayed publicly — not to members, not to anyone.

If you tick the box to put your request on the public list, what appears there is only what you’re looking for, your story if you wrote one, and your budget if you gave one. Your name is not attached to it.

Nothing appears on the public list until a person has read it first.

If you make an account

We store your email address so you can sign back in. Your display name and username are public — they appear on anything you post. Your email is not.

You can use a display name that isn’t your real name. That’s deliberate: plenty of people would rather not be identifiable, and that’s fine.

Photos you post

Photos are resized on your own phone or computer before they are uploaded, and only the resized version is stored. The original never leaves your device.

Worth knowing: photographs can carry hidden information such as where they were taken. The resizing strips that out as a side effect, but if a photo shows something you’d rather not share, the photo itself is still the photo.

Tracking and analytics

There are none. No analytics service, no tracking pixels, no advertising cookies, nothing following you between sites. The only cookie we set is the one that keeps you signed in.

Getting your details removed

Email us and ask — the address is at the bottom of every page. We’ll take your request off the list and delete your contact details. If you have an account and want it gone, say so and we’ll remove it.

We also keep dated backups of the whole site, so that a mistake or a crash doesn’t lose everyone’s posts. Your details sit in those backups for up to a month after we delete them from the site itself, and then they go too. Nobody reads a backup unless something has gone wrong.

This is a small site run by people, not a company with a privacy department. Ask plainly and you’ll get a plain answer.
